Variable Lift is seeking a Delivery Manager / Engagement Manager to own the day-to-day reality of client work across multiple engagements.
This is not a "status meeting scheduler" role. You will be responsible for making sure work is clearly defined, owned by the right people, and actually gets done — with risks and gaps surfacing early, not after deadlines slip.
You will work closely with senior technical leadership, contractors, and clients to keep delivery predictable and sane. Initially, this role is fractional / part-time, with a clear path to expanded scope as the company grows.
| Engagement | Fractional, with Growth Path to FTE |
| Compensation | $70-$80/h CAD |
| Duration | Ongoing |
| Availability Requirements | Consistent overlap with Eastern Time (ET) business hours |
| Communication | Fluent English (spoken and written) |
Maintain and oversee project boards across active client engagements
Capture work from conversations and turn it into clear, actionable tickets
Ensure tasks are properly assigned, scoped, and prioritized
Track progress and follow up when momentum stalls
Surface delivery risks, dependencies, and blockers early

Help translate client needs into structured execution plans
Maintain a clear view of engagement status across clients
Ensure delivery expectations are visible and realistic
Act as the connective tissue between leadership, contractors, and clients
Maintain clear documentation of decisions, scope changes, and next steps
Ensure nothing important "lives only in someone's head"
Writing code (though technical literacy is important)
Acting as a sales closer
Micromanaging how people do their work
A purely administrative PM role
Your job is to create clarity, accountability, and momentum.
Experience managing delivery across software, systems, or technical projects
Comfort working with engineers, technical leaders, and non-technical stakeholders
Strong written communication and documentation habits
Ability to operate independently with incomplete information
Calm, structured thinking in ambiguous or fast-moving situations
Experience in consulting, agencies, or multi-client environments
Familiarity with tools like OpenProject, Jira, Notion, Asana or similar
Ability to read technical discussions and extract actionable work
Experience supporting SOWs, scopes, or engagement planning
You notice when things are drifting and intervene early
You follow up and ask uncomfortable but necessary questions
You balance multiple threads without losing the plot
You value clarity over heroics
Teammates can focus where they add the most value because you've removed friction and reduced chaos
